Crochet Workshop with Nancy Harman

Wednesday 27th September - 10:00 to 12:00

A 2-hour workshop for anyone who wants to learn the basics of crochet or who has maybe tried to crochet in the past and not succeeded. You will learn how to make a chain, do treble crochet stitches and change colour, whilst working on producing your own granny square.

The granny square is enjoying a new popularity recently and bags, blankets, shawls and waistcoats made of them are all the rage, so you will be able to use your new found skills to produce items that are not only functional but beautiful as well.

Your tutor will be Nancy Harman who has managed to teach crochet to many of those who didn’t think they could and she will support you throughout the process.

You will need to bring small quantities of at least two colours of DK yarn, preferably in pale colours (as they make it easier to see your stitches) and a size 4mm crochet hook (I prefer a soft handled hook as they are kinder to your wrist and they are available to buy in Threads). Alternatively, you can bring at least 2 colours of Aran yarn and a size 5mm hook. This may be easier if you have problems with your wrists or your near sight. The process is the same with either. Threads have a good stock of inexpensive yarn if you don’t have anything suitable.

The cost is £15 for the session, and you will receive handouts to go away with to help you remember what you’ve learnt! Refreshments are included.
